A Plan That Didn’t Sit on the Shelf: Downtown Sapulpa in Action
Communities in Focus · Garden C
Ken Boone (Olsson)
What happens after a downtown master plan is adopted? In Sapulpa, the plan became a roadmap for action. Developed through extensive community engagement, the Downtown Sapulpa Master Plan established a shared vision for a vibrant, walkable downtown and paired that vision with specific strategies for implementation. Since adoption, the City and its community partners have used that framework to guide public investment, align a variety of funding streams, transform downtown streets and alleys, expand programming and placemaking, support local businesses, and build momentum for continued reinvestment. Those efforts have earned statewide and national recognition, including an OML Municipal Innovation Award, a Main Street award for Best Placemaking for the Alley District, and recognition for the Christmas Chute as both an Outstanding New Event and Outstanding Attraction.
