Beyond the Highway: Reimagining US 77 as Edmond's Gateway to Downtown

Infrastructure in Focus · 5th Floor Lounge

Sean Wallace (City of Edmond, OK)

Many Oklahoma communities are grappling with the challenge of converting highway-oriented corridors into vibrant, community-serving places. This session presents the City of Edmond's US 77 Corridor Study, a comprehensive effort to reimagine a major state highway as it transitions from an interstate gateway to an urban corridor and downtown main street environment. The presentation will explore how the City of Edmond and its consulting team worked together to integrate transportation planning, urban design, land use, and economic development objectives to identify context-sensitive corridor alternatives that improve safety, mobility, and access for all users. Attendees will learn how the study evaluated roadway cross-sections, multimodal enhancements, redevelopment opportunities, and placemaking strategies that can help transform aging highway corridors into catalysts for community investment and sustainable growth.
